A Streetcar Named Desire

A streetcar named desire is a superbly acted film. Marlon Brando and Vivien Liegh excels in their respective role. Vivien Liegh as Blanche especially brings out the feel of a theatre on films with her disturbed character. And Marlon Brando as a unsympathetic brute is convincing. Hmm... old movies are not so bad after all. Even though it is in black and white, the feel and atmosphere the director Kazan creates is haunting.
The Story: Blanche (Vivien Liegh) arrives after losing everything, her husband, parents, home (bella reve) to her sister Stella (Kim Hunter) who is married to Stanley (Marlon Brando). Stanley is not so convinced with Blanche and tries to dig her past which he reveals to Stella that she was seeing plenty of men in Hotel Flamingo. And ruins her possible suitor Mitch by also revealing to him. Blanche is a disturbed women and makes it difficult by Stanley's brute behaviour. When Stella is delivering baby, Stanley rapes Stella. She is taken away by stranger in the final scene.. where she remarks '' I have always depended on Stranger's kindness".
