Because I love the book, I was compelled to watch it, however midway through I began to doze off which is a rare case as I love watching movies. May be I had higher expectations or may be the scenes were too dark in black and white I didn't find it exceptional. The movie with Gary Copper and Helen Hayes directed by Frank Borzage in 1939, lacks drama and depth. I wish it could be remade again. ...better to read the book. !
